Know your poop!
This week is the intense week of Pure 21. I’ve done the 7 P’s and I’ve cut out all CRAP and I’ve already seen improvements in my sleep patterns because I’m not having any caffeine or drinking alcohol. Did you know that the half-life of caffeine (how long it remains in your system after you consume it) is somewhere between 4 and 8 hours depending on who you are. Your genome and other foods consumed with it, drugs, and even what quantity of caffeine you consume, can alter that half-life, so in some people it may be as long as 2 days! No wonder if you drink a large, strong coffee late morning you may struggle to sleep at night, because half-life is the time it takes for the effect to be reduced by half – it’s still keeping you awake after 8 hours and potentially still affecting you 8 hours after that. So if you followed my tip in my last blog, to get rid of coffee in the morning and replace it with lemon water, maybe now you’ll decide to ditch the coffee altogether!
Alcohol, which feels like it helps me to sleep is actually putting me into a stupor and often wakes me up at 4am feeling anxious and fretful of anything and everything. As much as I like gin, I really do feel better and sleep better without it. Damn it! Because sleep is better, although my energy levels slumped at the start of last week, they picked up again by the weekend, but I was still craving coffee and cake!
Week 2 is on another level. I’ve added in the three supplements which really make a difference – Biome DT, Biome Actives and Biome Shake. These three are game changers. I can tell. It’s all about the poop!
You can tell a lot about your internal health by the quality and regularity of your poop. Poop isn’t glamorous, but it sure is important and The Bristol Stool Chart shows what is what and is worth a look. Comparing your poop with the diagrams and descriptions will tell you if you have healthy guts or not. Go on – you know you want to! Here it is on a mug!
(Oh, and if you aren’t pooping at least once a day, then you need to consider your gut health too…)
During week 1, cutting out the sugar and processed carbs starves the microbes which feed on these and gradually they start to die off. Dead microbes, like anything dead, give off gases and toxins and the waste needs to be expelled from the gut. This is where Biome DT comes in. A huge dose of fibre, including inulin, helps the expulsion of toxins, and glutamine, an amino acid necessary for maintaining the integrity of the gut wall helps the body heal the lining of the gut, so preventing any toxins from passing through into the blood stream. And Biome DT also does wonders for your poop – moving you to type 4 within a couple of days and pooping two or three times a day.
Added protein in the form of Biome Shake gives plenty of amino acids to bind to toxins in the liver before being expelled through the bowel. And Biome Actives repopulates the gut with ‘good’ bacteria which are instrumental in maintaining the health of the gut lining, digesting foods which our gut cannot, improving our immunity by dealing with viruses and detrimental bacteria before they can get into our blood stream, assisting in the production of serotonin and so many other health benefits.
But things often get worse before they get better, and so on Monday I felt a bit migrainey – light sensitive, eyes not working properly, that horrid feeling of being in a glass box and everyone else being outside it, nausea, tired and generally a bit under the weather. My legs feel heavy and my runs are suffering as my energy slumps again. It’s just part of the process, so I’m resting when I can, eating clean, drinking plenty of water and trying to get 8 hours’ sleep a night. Roll on the weekend when the magic starts to happen and cravings will be gone!
